Trigger finger, trigger thumb, or trigger digit is a common disorder characterised by catching, snapping or locking of the involved finger, associated with pain. Stiffness and catching tend to be worse after inactivity, such as when you wake in the morning.
Common symptoms of trigger fingers include:
- Bent fingers/ stiffness in fingers
- Pain in fingers or palm of hand
- Swollen bumps at the base of the finger
Trigger fingers can be treated using splinting, exercises and resting the affected area. In more severe conditions, cortisone injections and surgery can be used to treat trigger finger problems
